ABOUT ARTIST

My name is Emma, I was born in Sydney, Australia and I like to write music. I craft songs from a little makeshift studio in Newport, on the northern beaches. My home is my sanctuary, my garden full of vegetables, overgrown greenery and hidden crystals in the earth.

I spend my days working as a healer in town and my nights creating stories with sound. When I don't have time to write, I throw my creative energy into cooking, which is my next favourite thing.

I have been writing songs since I was a young girl. I remember wanting to learn the drums as my first instrument, however the guitar was easier to access as my older brother had many. I became very interested in piano in my teens and found it opened up a world of song writing possibilities.
In my early 20's, after travelling the world, I devoted 3 years of serious study to sound engineering, performance and writing. This has allowed me to take greater creative control and have complete freedom as an artist. Worth. every. penny.
I enjoy being the sole creator of everything I record and the graphic artwork for the albums.
'Universe' is the second mini album I have made. The basic themes of the album draw on universal knowledge, space, fate, existence and the wild unknown. My tarot deck was a big source of inspiration for this album. I would pick out a card and use the picture to construct the music and lyrical story around that. The song "11.11" is a tribute to my love of tarot and the mystery that surrounds it's origin. I always begin the writing process at the piano and use it as my starting point for other instruments to evolve around.
Writing, for me, is not a conscious thing. I seem to access a part of my mind that is separate from my every day thought. Over time, I have realised, when I am not able to tune into the "source" properly that is the time I need to step away from writing completely. As all that usually follows is frustration and paths that lead to no where. These dry spells can last many months. Other times I can write many songs in the space of a week.. so I just never know when a new album is around the corner.
In 2014, I made my first EP titled 'Little Mountain'. It was a long time in the making and was a massive milestone in my life. It was the first time I was able to put all my hard learned skills into a project that was completely my own making, with the sound of a full band.

I have, at times, questioned the point of making music if I am not pursuing a full time career. However, after a lot of soul searching I realised I just love to do it, expressing my thoughts and ideas makes me happy and that's all I need to continue.
Whether my work is heard by many or by no one, I have a voice and a vision. This is my way of offering something to the world and to the collective consciousness of all living things.
